Hike: Bijiashan 筆架山 ridge from Maokong to Shiding 石碇

Map, Photo, and Description by Ondrej413255_10151157699117172_581332408_o

Hike starts at Caonan (草湳) bus stop (line BR15) accessible from either Maokong or Zhinan temple gondola station, or directly from Taipei Zoo MRT. This is a long hike with many climbs and descents using fixed ropes or nearby trees for support, in some ways similar to Huangdi dian or Wuliao jian. The trail splits from 二格山-Ergeshan trail after about ~500 meters, turning right to 筆架山 – Bijiashan. Be prepared for 6-7 hours of hiking, although it is possible to end the hike earlier by descending to Shenkeng, saving maybe 1-2 hours. During the final descent, the trail splits in two – turning left, you will end up behind Shiding primary school (石碇國小).

There are some nice 360° views from the mountain peaks and several interesting rope sections, but nothing technically very challenging. Make sure you go on the trail when it had a chance to dry up for at least 2 days

GPX: We don’t link to GPX files directly anymore since links get broken whenever Wandermap updates their system. Instead you need to look on the Wandermap page, below the description of the hike, in the right corner for a “Export GPS Data” button. It will then download automatically.
